General Itinerary: 1-Hour Segway Tour of Philadelphia
The beginning of your tour takes you down to Penn’s Landing, with views over to New Jersey and out to the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Continue along the Delaware River past historic ships and popular restaurants. Then, cross Columbus Boulevard to Headhouse Plaza and head south into the Bella Vista neighborhood. An often overlooked part of town for travelers, you get a peek at the artistic side while passing murals and artistic havens.
You then travel up through the iconic Italian Market (very popular with fans of the Rocky movies). Then, experience the eclectic South Street – viewing the Philadelphia Magic Gardens and several blocks along this historic street.
Your next neighborhood to explore is Society Hill with gorgeous historic homes, the nation’s first hospital (Penn Hospital), and quaint, quiet streets. Finally, head through the Independence Mall area, along Race Street, and back to our location next to the Betsy Ross House.
General Itinerary – 2-Hour Segway Tour of Philadelphia
The beginning of your 2-hour tour will take you down to Penn’s Landing, with views over to New Jersey and out to the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. That’s where the similarities between the 1-Hour Tour and 2-Hour Tour ends!
Then through the Historic District, passing Elfreth’s Alley, the Betsy Ross House, Franklin’s grave and Independence Hall before you pass into Society Hill. The architecture of the stately homes here will be a feast for the eyes and the aroma from the many coffee shops and restaurants along the way will inspire your senses.
Pass over the Avenue of the Arts on the way to Rittenhouse Square, and then wind through the Fitler Square neighborhood to the Schuylkill River. The scenery changes again here as you work your way along the paths of the Schuylkill Banks with the countless other runners, walkers, and bikers, towards the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Great views over the Boat Houses and of the Water Works gives your guide plenty of photos to take with you as the main feature.
The statue of Rocky adorns the area at the bottom of the famous steps that he ran in 1976, and perhaps your guide will give the chance to run the steps before you head on to the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Here you’ll find the Thinker by Auguste Rodin and the famous Barnes Foundation, as well as Logan Circle. Your guide takes you into some of the back streets towards the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and then back through Chinatown and Old City to the starting location.
How much do the 1-Hour Tour and 2-Hour Tour overlap?
Very little. Since all of our Segway tours start and end at the Philly Tour Hub, the very beginning and very ending of our tours will be similar, but the routes themselves only overlap for about 15 minutes. Both tours go down to Penn’s Landing and Delaware River Waterfront, but they deviate after that.
